Energy Effficiency Programs
Ameren has programs in Illinois and Missouri to encourage electrical energy efficiency in addition to incentive programs to install energy efficiency equipment.  For Illinois customers, click here, for Missouri customers, click here.

Laclede Gas Company offers several conservation and energy efficiency programs to encourage its customers to use natural gas wisely. With the assistance of the Laclede Energy Efficiency Collaborative, the Company has selected a portfolio which provide residential, commercial, and industrial customers with a combination of direct benefits and self-help/educational programs. Renewable Energy Programs
AmerenUE offers Pure Power to support the development of new renewable energy sources, like wind farms, to lower dependence on fossil fuels, boosts the economy, and keeps the air clean and healthy. Pure Power funds are used to purchase Green-e Certified® renewable energy certificates (RECs) from regional wind energy and other renewable generation facilities.

Transit/Vehicle Alternatives
Metro
owns and operates the St. Louis Metropolitan region's public transportation system. The Metro System includes MetroLink, the region's light rail system; MetroBus, the region's bus system; and Metro Call-A-Ride, a paratransit van system.

RideFinders assists commuters working in St. Louis City; and St. Louis, Franklin, Jefferson, St. Charles, Madison, St. Clair, and Monroe Counties.by providing a free ridematching service to help commuters carpool or vanpool to work.

WeCar is the City of St. Louis car sharing program to bring an easy and convenient service to downtown St. Louis.  The WeCar vehicles, all hybrids, are parked in select downtown locations and requires membership to use the vehicles.

TrailNet fosters healthy and active communities through innovative programs, planning, and policy that promote walking and bicycling throughout the St. Louis bi-state region.

The St. Louis Regional Clean Cities Program is a voluntary initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to expand the commercial use of vehicles that operate with fuels other than petroleum-based gasoline and diesel. Using clean, domestic, alternative fuels will improve our air quality, reduce our dependence on imported oil and improve our economy.

Green Building
The USGBC-St. Louis Regional Chapter transforms the built environment by increasing LEED-registered and certified buildings, facilitiating professional development and accreditation, and promoting practical green building standards.  

The St. Louis Green Building Initiative (GBI), a joint venture between the Home Builders Association of St. Louis and Laclede Gas Company,  is a comprehensive third party verification program for new residential construction. All homes pursuing GBI certification are verified for compliance with the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines. The inspection process for the GBI-St. Louis program is handled through Laclede Gas Company. ReSource St. Louis is the St. Louis area’s construction and commercial materials exchange. The mission of ReSource St. Louis is to divert construction and demolition materials from local landfills by offering environmentally and financially responsible alternatives to the traditional construction process.

Recycling
AbitibiBowater manages the EcoRewards Commerial Recycling Program designed to specifically address the needs of the business recycling customer by taking a comprehensive consultative approach to helping customers maximize their waste diversion and cost savings. St. Louis Regional Partnership for Electronics Recovery encourages reuse and recycling of unwanted electronics in our region. To ensure electronics are managed in an environmentally safe manner, the Partnership has registered numerous facilities in the area as official collection sites for e-cycle St. Louis.

The St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste Management District is a regional agency created to assist the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors in establishing and expanding waste reduction and recycling. The District includes the City of St. Louis, St. Louis County, Jefferson County and St. Charles County. Areas within the district vary from highly urban to extremely rural, which require a wide variety of waste reduction and recycling programs to meet local needs.

Alternative Energy Research
Washington University’s International Center for Advanced Renewable Energy and Sustainability (I-CARES) encourages and coordinates University-wide and external collaborative research into biofuels and other alternative energy applications.

The Consortium for Clean Coal Utilization is dedicated to addressing the scientific and technological challenges of ensuring that coal can be used in a clean and sustainable manner. Housed at Washington University, lead sponsors of the Consortium are Ameren, Arch Coal and Peabody Coal.

The Center for Evergreen Energy is a national center linking global research, business and policy issues to improve products, processes, environmental acceptance and public adoption of sustainable energy solutions.

Air Quality Resources
St. Louis Clean Air Partnership increases awareness of regional air quality issues and encourages activities to reduce air pollution emissions. Operating as a public-private partnership, currently more than 650 area businesses, organizations, schools, hospitals and government agencies are members of The Partnership, working together to aid in this mission. The Partnership is best known for its daily air quality forecasting and for encouraging area residents to take steps at home and at work to reduce emissions, with employers on clean air programs for their workplace.

The East-West Gateway Coordinating Council is lead air quality and transportation planning agency for the St. Louis metropolitan region. Gateway's air quality planning efforts have focused on working with the States of Missouri and Illinois on the development and implementation of Transportation Control Measures (TCMs). Stormwater Reduction
Clean Rivers Healthy Communities Program
is an initiative of the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) to improve the quality of the St. Louis region’s rivers, streams, and creeks by significantly reduce the amount of sewage that enters into the waterways from combined sewers during excessive rains and snow melts.

Sustainable Infrastructure

The Sustainable Sites Initiative is an effort by the American Society of Landscape Architects to create voluntary national guidlelines and performance benchmarks for sustainable land design, construction and maintenance practices.
