What is the Environmental Council?
The Environmental Council members come from over 200 area RCGA-member companies and organizations including industry, small business, environmental scientists, engineers and consultants, attorneys, academicians, municipal officials and civic leaders. Participation is open to all RCGA members, subject to the approval of the Executive Committee of the Environmental Council.
The Environmental Council has established a routine presence in Jefferson City and Springfield relating to environmental issues in legislative, executive and regulatory venues. Regional concerns have likewise been well represented by volunteers and staff at the federal level.
Topics discussed at the Environmental Council range from air quality maintenance, brownfield redevelopment water quality, waste treatment and energy administration . The Council and its component committees serve as a conduit for information to member organizations as well as a forum for discussion of salient environmental and economic issues affecting area businesses.
Mission Statement
The Council seeks the appropriate balance between economic growth and environmental quality in the St. Louis region.
Committee & Workgroup Structure
The members of the Council may serve on one or more of the eight established committees that address various issues of interest to the Council-at-large. In addition to those committees (listed below), a number of ad hoc workgroups are convened throughout the year to address issue-specific topics of concern to RCGA members and the region as a whole.
Because of the standing of the RCGA within the local community as well as within state and federal venues, committee and workgroup meetings are frequently attended by regulators and policy-makers. The cooperative nature of such interactions serves to both educate and enlighten all participants and facilitate prudent environmental administration for the region as working relationships are established and enhanced.
